ΣAE Texas Rho Fall Newsletter

September 2023

Dear SAE Texas Rho Alums and Parents,

We are off to a great start this semester, and are excited to share a few things about what has been accomplished since our spring newsletter and what we have on the calendar for the fall.

We had another incredibly successful Summer Rush, and the 2023 Class has 70 young men from 23 different high schools and 6 different states. All 70 are settling into their new dorm rooms, figuring out where their classes are, attending Study Halls at 2414 Pearl Street, and taking pride in the role they played in our traditional Game Day build. Our various build leaders and upperclassmen had a great time assisting these new members while we transformed the backyard for the Horns home opener against Rice.

This past weekend, over 125 members traveled to Tuscaloosa for the Alabama game. We had a joint gathering with the Alabama SAEs on Friday night at a music hall, and went to their house on Saturday before the game. They were fantastic hosts and all of us who made the trip will remember the weekend as one of the most memorable of our college experience.

This October, we will be holding our annual ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Car Wash’ for the Breast Cancer Research Center of Austin. This is a great way for the fraternity to get involved with the city of Austin, and we are very excited to extend our partnership with the foundation. The effort started when the current seniors were freshmen, and the BCRC has been so appreciative of our donations these past several years. It means a lot to our class to continue this new philanthropic tradition, and we are actively looking for other ways to give back and make an impact in the Austin community this fall.

Our philanthropic efforts last spring were also a great success, as we again sponsored the Jackson Storm Baseball Team! Our donation to the local youth baseball team of Jackson, Tennessee allowed the kids to travel to Dallas, Texas to play in the 14U World Series tournament.

Cooking for Kids, our annual spring fundraiser, took place last semester as well. This fundraiser was in support of the Jeremiah Program, which offers one of the nation's most successful strategies for transforming families from poverty to prosperity two generations at a time. The fundraiser was a success, and the Jeremiah Program was very thankful for our efforts to support the foundation!

We are very excited to host our annual alumni weekend November 3rd and 4th. Three hours prior to the start of the Texas vs. Kansas State game kickoff we will be hosting a tailgate at 2414 Pearl and encourage all alumni to attend. The chapter house has never looked better, and we hope you’ll come by and meet some of the current members.

As an Executive Council, we are looking forward to yet another great year on Pearl Street. We hope to see many of you soon at either Parents or Alumni Weekend. In addition to these weekends, parents and alumni are always welcome at 2414 Pearl for our home game tailgates which start three hours prior to kickoff.

Sincerely,

Dear SAE Texas Rho Alums and Parents,

We are off to a historic start this semester, and are excited to share a few things about what has been accomplished since our spring newsletter and what we have on the calendar for the fall.

On August 18 and 19, members from SAE National, the Re-Alignment Committee, our Chapter Advisor and several of our alumni gathered with the entire chapter for a one-day SAE Orientation before everyone was initiated into SAE as an Emerging Chapter. We have a lot to accomplish over the coming school year, but we are targeting a late April full initiation. We would also like to extend a thank you to all the alumni that have donated their time over the past year and a half to make this realignment happen. We are very excited about being a part of SAE, and with the current trajectory of our chapter.
Summer Rush was incredibly successful, and the 2022 Pledge Class has 58 young men from 26 different high schools and 7 different states. All 58 are settling into their new dorm rooms, figuring out where their classes are, attending Study Halls at 2414 Pearl Street, and taking pride in the role they played in our traditional Game Day build. Our various build leaders and upperclassmen had a great time last week assisting these freshmen while we transformed the backyard for the Horns home opener against Louisiana-Monroe.
This October, we will be holding our annual ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Car Wash’ for the Breast Cancer Research Center of Austin. This is a great way for the fraternity to get involved with the city of Austin, and we are super excited to extend our partnership with the foundation. They have been so appreciative of our donations in the past, which really means a lot to the fraternity!

Along with our philanthropic efforts in the fall, we have also finished up our efforts from this past semester. We are proud to announce that SAE Texas Rho is the official sponsor of the Jackson Storm Baseball Team! Our donation to the local youth baseball team of Jackson, Tennessee allowed the kids to travel to Panama City Beach, Florida and compete in the World Series!

We are very excited to host our annual alumni weekend October 15th and 16th. Three hours prior to the start of the Texas vs. Iowa State game kickoff we will be hosting a tailgate at 2414 Pearl and encourage all alumni to attend. The chapter house has never looked better, and we hope you’ll come by and meet some of the current members.

As part of the rechartering effort, one of the things we are currently working on with SAE National is putting together an Alumni Advisory board. In addition to SAE Texas Rho alumni, we have asked several SAE alums from other chapters to consider serving. You should have received a notification about this effort earlier this week from SAE National, and you can reply to that email or reach out to our Chapter Advisor, Brent Bechtol (brentbechtol@belgradeinv.com) if you are interested in serving either now or down the road.

Sincerely,
